Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, led a roadshow around Najafgarh and Matiala to talk to the farmers in the rural constituencies about the Land Pooling Policy (LPP) that was recently notified by the Delhi government.

The road show started from Nawada metro station, from where the CM and his motorcade first reached Chhawla Village, where he addressed over 50 farmers on the new policy.

“I have come here to give you the good news that we have cleared the Land Pooling Policy for your benefit. This could happen after a lot of hard work because we were not allowed to get this cleared, but we finally managed to do it,” he said at Chhawla’s Panchayat Ghar.

‘High circle rate’

Under the LPP, farmers can pool their land and give it to the DDA, which would develop infrastructure such as roads, schools, parks and hospitals on part of the accumulated land and return the rest to the farmers, who can later sell it to private builders for undertaking housing projects. This policy is meant to be beneficial to farmers, who will be able to sell their returned agricultural land to builders and developers at market rates.

Mr. Kejriwal also congratulated the people of Najafgarh that their MLA Kailash Gahlot was now a part of the cabinet. “Kailash Gahlot is the third MLA in the history of Delhi to be made a Minister from a rural constituency. It is not just his achievement but a victory for all of you,” he said.

At Pandwala Village and Khera Dabar too, Kejriwal spoke to the farmers about LPP. He said that his government had fixed a circle rate at high as ₹3crore per acre, but this rate was scrapped by the then L-GNajeeb Jung. However, not all the famers were happy with the terms of LPP. Some complained that a higher circle rate should be fixed for their land, while others said if portions of their land are taken for development then land equivalent to that should be compensated at some other part of the city.
